History of the MISA Prediction Competition

The inaugural prediction competition was in season 2003/04 and it proved to be very successful. The winner was decided by a system of averaging, but whether using that formula or a simple points scored system the winner was the same. The winner was theboss who passed on his prize to Brooklyn Lion. That year the prize to the winner, donated by MrPiggy, was lunch in Kitchener's Restaurant (for the winner plus a guest).

The following season 2004/05 it was decided to change the scoring formula and declare the winner by a simple total points system. Average scores were still calculated but only used to settle tied scores. At the end of that season mickeydolenz was the outright winner. The prize that season was membership of the Lions Trust for one year. The eventual recipient, courtesy of a kind gesture by mickeydolenz was Ridders' son Mason.

Season three (2005/06) it was decided to keep the scoring formulas unchanged. The eventual winner of the third year of MISA's prediction competition was Indigo Lion. He followed the trend set by previous winners by passing on his prize (which once again was Lions Trust membership). This time the eventual recipient of Lions Trust membership was Claridge For England. That season there was also an optional entrance fee which was introduced to raise money for both MISA and the Lions Trust, and to give a cash prize to the highest placed person who had paid to enter. The result was donations of £90.00 to both MISA and the Lions Trust and £180.00 being paid to Matt.

The fourth year of MISA's prediction competition (season 2006/07) was once again very successful with 97 people taking some part during the course of the season. Money was once again donated to the Lions Trust and an equal amount used towards MISA's website operational costs. Both the Lions Trust and MISA received £92.50 each. Once again there was also a cash prize to the winner and this time the recipient of £185.00 was Nez. The prize giving ceremony took place in the Rose & Crown, Borough.

Season five for MISA's prediction competition (season 2007/08) retained the same scoring formulas used in the previous three seasons but saw a change to the distribution of cash. The MISA Administration Committee decided to waive their potential share of cash in favour of the Lions Trust. They were able to do this as money had been donated by many of MISA's message board regulars (the Members) sufficient to cover MISA website running costs for the immediate future. The result was a donation of £410.00 to the Lions Trust. It was also decided to split the cash paid to individuals so that both the winner and the runner-up would receive a cash prize. The season ended with £328.00 paid to Dubai Dan and £82.00 paid to mfcjim. Prior to the season finishing, MrPiggy announced that this fifth season of MISA's prediction competition would be the last one run solely by him. Soon after the season ended it was announced that an automated prediction competition for forthcoming seasons would be set up and administered by Siggles.
